Various redesign projects with beer labels
Clients: Confluence Brewing, Urbanaut Brewing
Role: Holographic + Graphic Designer
Tapping into the beer industry
Fathom Optics worked with several breweries to enhance their brand packaging and marketing.
Confluence : The Wizard
Many are a fan of magic spells and space travel, so why not have them together? The Wizard is a Gose style sour ale brewed by Confluence. Spells and space are an unusual combo, but The Wizard embraces them with a new fruity tart twist.
For this project, Confluence wanted to market The Wizard with a new visual twist in addition to it’s flavor twist. Fathom Optics came in to assist, starting off with their current online marketing as reference.
Fathom Pitch and Process
With a moodboard of twisting vortex and galaxies, I created a custom optical embellishment was created that generated movement and depth. On top of the optical illusion of movement, the other graphic elements such as the wizard, orb, and branding would appear to float on top of the effect and “pop out” towards the viewer.
Production and Marketing
The final result of the label hit all the marks for Confluence. The Wizard 3D viewer (part of the Fathom Optics product) clearly showed exactly how the custom effect would be seen in person on a 16oz can and was enough to bring the new label into production. A fun new seasonal pop for a magical brand.
Though originally a limited batch, Confluence made multiple runs of this label throughout 2020 - 2021. All companies involved were awarded the 2021 FTA Technical Innovation Award and highest honors at Miraclon Global Flexo Innovation Awards for this project. I assisted with the marketing and ceremony content shown below.
Urbanaut: Pilsner
Urbanaut Brewing in New Zealand wanted to spice up their Brera Prosecco Pilsner design with shiny effects. The Fathom design team worked along the Rapid Label converters to take up the challenge of making an affordable visual embellishment.
Process + Production
The artist Serval Fandango had used the Fathom Designer to upload their file and tried using the library of Fathom Effects. The crumpled texture in the back is one that I created called Foilage (a pun off crumpled foil). We then worked with the artist and Rapid Labels to produce the files for production.
Final Production Label
Dieline Marketing
After a successful production, we presented our package to the Dieline 2022 competition and wanted use for future marketing. I created stills to go along with the footage of the label.
